WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A 22-year-old man accused of attempted murder in a West Melbourne shooting has reportedly turned himself in to police.

Officers responded Thursday afternoon to a report of shots fired in the area of South Wickham Road and Coral Drive, the West Melbourne Police Department said in a news release.

The officers found several 9mm shell casings on the ground, yet everyone involved had run away before police got there, the release states.

By that evening, detectives had used surveillance footage from a nearby business to determine a victim and a suspect in the shooting, according to the release. The video allegedly captured a confrontation between two individuals, one of whom — the suspect, according to police — was identified as Abner Manuel Pagan Otero, 22. Otero is accused of shooting a firearm multiple times in the direction of the victim, the release states.

An arrest warrant was issued for Otero, who turned himself in to detectives Friday morning, police said. He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond, records show.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact West Melbourne police.
