BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — A man was hit by a bullet in his apartment after a reported shooting outside in Bristol, Virginia.
According to the Bristol Virginia Police Department (BVPD), officers were called to a shooting at an apartment on Harmeling St. around 5:35 a.m. on Saturday.
When officers arrived, they spoke with people who lived nearby and the victim. Most of the people told police they had heard an argument behind the apartment building at 780 Harmeling St. followed by or more gunshots.
Witnesses saw a Black male in a “white hoodie or jacket and possibly a white flat-billed hat, getting into a dark colored vehicle which could’ve been an SUV,” a news release from the BVPD states. The vehicle reportedly left the area heading south on Oakview Ave.
At the scene of the shooting, officers located damage that indicated a bullet had gone through the back door area of the building and hit an inside wall. A spent cartridge was also found outside behind the apartment.
A 35-year-old man told officers had had heard an argument outside while he was just inside the back door. At that point, he reported hearing a gunshot and was then grazed by a bullet near the shoulder blade.
The victim was treated on the scene by EMS and did not need to be hospitalized, according to police.
As of Monday afternoon, an investigation into the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the BVPD at 276-645-7400.
