Police Seek Public Assistance After Suspect Allegedly Steals Golf Cart, Fires Gun

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) is asking people to check their cameras and property after a man allegedly tried to enter homes and fired a weapon after stealing from a country club.

A news release from the JCPD states Axel Lara, 24, of Johnson City, was arrested Wednesday and charged with the following:

  • 2 counts of attempted aggravated burglary
  • 2 counts of possession of a weapon during commission/attempt to commit a dangerous felony
  • Joyriding

Lara was arrested after officers were called to a report of shots fired near Woodland Ave around 2:15 a.m.

According to police, Lara stole a golf cart from the Johnson City Country Club, drove around the nearby area and tried to enter homes. Lara also allegedly discharged a weapon during the incident.

After his arrest, Lara was transported to the Washington County Detention Center.

The JCPD is asking anyone who lives near Woodland Ave, Broadway St, East Unaka Ave and Lakeview Rd to check their surveillance systems and look around their property for damage or missing items.
