WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – In remembrance of a fallen hero, flags will be flown at half-staff on Saturday at government buildings in both Tallahassee and Winter Haven. This gesture honors a U.S. Army major who tragically lost his life among six soldiers in Kuwait.
Governor Ron DeSantis has decreed that flags be lowered in tribute to Maj. Cody Khork. Khork’s life was claimed in Kuwait amid ongoing military operations involving Iran.
Originally from Polk County, Khork was deeply committed to his role as a multiple launch rocket system/fire direction specialist. His dedicated service in the Army began in 2009 and, in recognition of his sacrifice, he was posthumously promoted from captain to major.
The flags will be lowered at the state Capitol in Tallahassee and across all local and government buildings in Winter Haven, from sunrise until sunset, in a somber mark of respect.
Additionally, on Saturday, Maj. Khork’s family will gather to honor his memory with a memorial service at Haven Worship Center.
