POOLER, Ga. () — Pooler city leaders have unanimously approved a $19.3M contract to expand Quacco Road.

spoke to City Manager Heath LLoyd about the impact this will have on one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia.

“I think Quacco Road phase one is an important investment,” he said. “It’s going to expand that roadway to accommodate some of this growth and development that we’ve seen quite honestly over the last five to 10 years.”

It is a project Lloyd said is a part of their $40M budget for transportation projects.

“It is going to taper down to tie back into the existing roadway,” Lloyd said. “So just to be clear, it’s going to be four lanes from approximately Blue Moon crossing to East Haven and then from East Haven, it will begin to taper back down to tie back into the existing roadway.”

Improvements are expected to enhance safety and traffic flow in the bustling area.

“One of the most important things you can do for a roadway like this is to invest in sidewalks to allow and accommodate pedestrian movements up and down the roadway,” Lloyd said. “You’re going to hear more from the city about investing in this pedestrian type of infrastructure that allow pedestrians to traverse our city and quite honestly, experience our city in a different way.”

A start date for construction is still being finalized. However, Lloyd said it will take roughly 30 to 34 months for completion.

He urged travelers to be patient throughout this period.

“There will not be many road closures or detours, but it will certainly impact the travel of our citizens as well as visitors to our city,” he said.

He continued, “We do not anticipate ever closing the road in its entirety since it’s just going to be expanding the existing lanes. But there will be modifications of lanes and movement of traffic on the roadway where you might shift in lane over to one side or vice versa”

Lloyd added that the city is also looking forward to further traffic improvements on Pine Barren Road and Mill Creek Circle.
