CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — After a hot August and September, it’s finally starting to feel like fall.
One popular fall spot in Champaign County is seeing the ripple effects of the cooler temperatures.

Champaign’s Curtis Orchard was filled with people on Sunday.

While the hotter days this fall might not have been ideal, Curtis Orchard’s co-owner and President, Randy Graham, said that their crops did better than expected. They’re seeing large pumpkins and a lot of them, as well as great-quality apples.

Graham also said that the dry and warm conditions made for low disease and less pests. He’s happy it’s starting to be cooler outside.

“I won’t say that it was slow, but it was slower than we’re used to because people don’t feel in the fall mood when it’s so hot, still feels like summer, so you’re not really thinking pumpkins, hot apple cider, and all that kind of stuff. But yes, once the weather broke, we’ve seen a big surge,” Graham shared.

Even when fall is over, Curtis Orchard still be open until Dec. 23. They’ve already opened up sign-ups for their “Cookies with Santa” event on Dec. 6.
