BISMARCK, Ill. (WCIA) — WCIA has an update for you on a new fire station in Vermilion County.

Last year WCIA reported the Bismarck Fire Protection District hoped to have a new place to call home. Now it’s all coming together.

The land where the new building will sit is being cleared. The fire chief said there is more work to be done before any construction can start, like underground drilling and connecting to sewer lines.

Chief Eric Johnson said it’ll help them grow and expand.

“So everything that we do is for the community. And to build a new station, to help better support our taxpayers and the community that we serve, that would be phenomenal. It’s to put a station and the equipment and apparatus that are needed to help people and help serve our community even better, more efficiently, more in a more timely fashion,” Fire Chief Eric Johnson said.

Their goal is to break ground by summer. Johnson said right now the estimated cost is about $1.7 million.
