Storm Team 3: Very nice Saturday, rain chances ahead

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — As we move into the week, expect a slightly cooler Monday before the arrival of rain on Tuesday, which will usher in a chillier atmosphere for the remainder of the week.

Sunday morning greeted us with brisk temperatures in the 40s, though the day warmed up considerably, reaching the 70s by afternoon. This was a notable difference from the cooler, rain-kissed conditions experienced north of I-20.

A cold front is approaching, bringing with it a 20% chance of light rain showers from tonight into early Monday morning. Monday will feel cooler with predominantly cloudy skies, and significant rain is likely to hold off until later, as a low-pressure system begins to form.

This system is expected to develop over the Gulf late Sunday into Monday, moving across the Southeast U.S. by Tuesday. It will deliver widespread rain to our area starting Monday night, lasting through Tuesday afternoon. Afterward, a cold front will sweep through, bringing drier conditions by Wednesday.

The positive aspect is that the rain will fall at a rate that should mitigate major flooding risks, while still offering much-needed moisture to the region. The heaviest rainfalls are predicted for inland areas, with the majority of the region likely receiving between one to two inches of rain.

Once the cold front clears the area, the middle portion of the week will be chilly again. Lows in the 30s are expected for Wednesday and Thursday morning, while highs only manage 50s and 60s for both afternoons.

An active pattern is expected to take hold of our region for the first part of December. Another storm system is expected to move through the area Friday through the weekend with more beneficial rain expected.
