President Trump Casts His Early Midterm Ballot in Florida

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – President Donald Trump voted in Florida’s midterm elections Saturday and said he supported every Republican on the ballot before traveling to Georgia for a campaign rally.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump arrived together at the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections office in West Palm Beach. The president had spent the morning at a nearby golf course. His voting habits have drawn scrutiny in the past because he has used mail-in ballots while frequently criticizing that method of voting.

Wearing an “I Voted” sticker, Trump was asked whether he had voted along party lines. “Very much so,” he replied.

Trump also stood by a controversial campaign advertisement from Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The spot has faced widespread criticism for featuring the estranged mother of Democratic opponent Dr. Amy Acton. Acton’s former husband, who was her children’s stepfather, was indicted for raping her when she was 12, and she later lost custody of the children.

The president defended his order directing the administration to pursue a lawsuit that would prevent certification of Alaska’s U.S. Senate election if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan is defeated. The dispute centers on the presence of another candidate named Dan Sullivan on the ballot.

Asked about the war in Iran, Trump said he could be forced to bring the conflict to an end himself, while leaving open the possibility of a negotiated settlement. “I may have to finish it off. Or maybe they’ll make a deal, but I’m not sure. Either way, we win,” he said.

Melania Trump was questioned about whether she could visit Ukraine after reportedly helping broker a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine earlier in the week. The agreement in the heavily damaged, Russian-occupied city of Oleshky was intended to allow humanitarian assistance to reach civilians and support evacuations.

“We will see,” she told reporters.

Trump has endorsed Republican Rep. Byron Donalds in Florida’s gubernatorial contest. Donalds is facing David Jolly, who has moved from the Republican Party to independent politics and later became a Democrat, in the race to replace term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Trump has also backed Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, who is seeking the final two years of Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s former Senate term. Moody is running against Angie Nixon, a progressive state lawmaker.
