SAVANNAH, Ga. () – An important private meeting concerning Chatham Area Transit (CAT) is scheduled for later this Friday afternoon. The agenda for the County Commissioners is an executive session dedicated to discussing ongoing legal matters involving CAT.

Interestingly, CAT representatives have not received an invitation nor any prior notice regarding the topics county officials intend to address in this closed-door session. This development follows several months of legal wrangling between Chatham County and CAT.

County authorities have accused CAT of mismanaging taxpayer funds and have issued a warning that financial support could be withdrawn as early as next year. In response, CAT firmly rejects these allegations, pointing to several court decisions that have favored their position.

Judicial decisions have prevented the county from establishing an independent transit board and have upheld the continuation of CAT’s revamped board structure. CAT’s spokesperson expressed concern over the lack of communication preceding Friday’s meeting, stressing the impact on the many community members who rely on their services.

“Ultimately, our mission is to support riders, whether they’re traveling to school, work, the grocery store, or medical appointments. That has always been our priority. We’re committed to resolving these issues and are eager to engage in discussions,” stated Spencer DeMink, the spokesperson for Chatham Area Transit.

While Friday’s session is largely behind closed doors, CAT has announced its own public meeting on Monday, where board members are expected to enter an executive session on leadership matters.

will be tracking both developments and bringing you updates as they come out of Friday’s meeting.
