DUNEDIN, Fla. (WFLA) – On Wednesday night, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority voted 12-0 to approve a stop on the Clearwater Ferry at the Dunedin Marina. The ferry, which typically shuttles passengers from mainland Clearwater to Clearwater Beach, will expand its coverage beginning on October 9th. While originally planned for all three locations, severe hurricane damage in 2024 prevented access to the Marina.

“I think that the Ferry would be phenomenal. It’s huge to have another way to get here. It’s going to be a big, big help,” said Erik Feus, who owns Sea Love Dunedin.

The Ferry has taken over 15,000 passengers since January of 2025, according to the PSTA. Ferry services run from Thursday through Sunday.

“I just think this is going to add foot traffic and it’s going to help all the businesses in town,” added Feus, referring to damage from Hurricanes Milton and Helene.

The new deal comes with a price tag of $165,000. The City of Dunedin will incur half the costs, and the other half will be subsidized by the Florida Department of Transportation, according to meeting notes.

“We’re excited about it. We are thrilled because it just it just brings a different clientele in and people are enjoying it, and it’s a nice way to come downtown,” said Sylvia Tzekas, the owner of Sea Sea Riders restaurant.

The ferry costs $8 for a one-way trip, and $4 for seniors and those with disabilities.
