COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. () – Saturday night, a Columbia County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a gold Toyota Camry on Jimmie Dyess Parkway at the on-ramp to I-20 East.

The car’s owner, identified as Martel Kyles, was wanted in Richmond County for Simple Assault.

When the car continued onto I-20 E, the deputy notified dispatch that he was in pursuit.

Authorities say Kyles got off I-20 and drove back into Columbia County, then got onto Wrightsboro Road headed west.

Law enforcement set out spike strips on Wrightsboro Road near John Deere Parkway.

They say Kyles attempted to turn right onto John Deere Parkway and rolled, ejecting him.

EMS and Fire arrived to render first aid to Kyles.

The passenger got out the car and was treated by EMS before being transported to Doctors Hospital.

Kyles was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is a developing story.
