HILTON HEAD, S.C. () – It’s a big day in the Lowcountry, as the RBC Heritage tees off this morning, just two days after the Masters wrapped up in Augusta.

went to Hilton Head Tuesday morning… where thousands will make their way to Harbour Town this week – decked out in a certain pattern.

Plaid is back in style this week as some of the most talented golfers in the world will compete to put on RBC Heritage’s iconic plaid jacket. As the tournament officially kicks off for public spectators today, this is one of the biggest weeks of the year for Hilton Head.

This year marks the 57th annual RBC Heritage. This signature event features 72 of the world’s top golfers and a $20 million purse—with $3.6 million going to the winner.

While fans come for the golf, the real impact is local… —bringing more than $134 million to South Carolina’s economy each year, and has donated nearly $57 million to local charities since 1987.

“Traditionally, Hilton Head Island is a sellout weekend when it comes to heritage. You’ve got corporate coming in entertainment. It’s a big entertainment tournament for corporate here. So, you get lots of hotel takeovers, lots of groups. And we love seeing that happen,” Charlie Clark, the Vice President of Communications for Hilton Head Island and Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and Visitor & Convention Bureau.

The events kick off at noon Tuesday with the traditional opening ceremony where defending champ Scottie Scheffler, and dignitaries will parade to the sounds of the citadel’s pipe band. This is then followed by a ceremonial tee shot using a vintage hickory club which is a nod to golf’s centuries-old traditions.

The tournament runs through Sunday, Easter Day. It is expected to draw more than 100,000 fans to watch, as in 2024 more than 115,000 people attended. Due to the large demand, more than 1600 volunteers will be working behind the scenes to make the RBC Heritage run smoothly.

RBC Heritage at a glance:

  • Happening This Week: April 14–20, 2025
  • Today’s Event: Opening Ceremony & Parade at Noon
  • Community Impact: $56.9M donated since 1987

While the pros are taking center stage, it is truly the community that is winning this week.
