COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. () – The Columbia County Planning Commission reviewed a re-zoning request for the Bright Side Homes cottage homes.

The developers for Bright Side cottage homes are hoping to build more than 123 cottages across from Mullins Colony in Evans.

The homes would range from 640 to 1,360 sq ft. and would include amenities such as a pool, fitness center and pickleball courts.

But the decision on the proposal was postponed until March 20th due to a request for more time.

The Division Director for Planning Services in Columbia County, Scott Sterling, explains why proposals get postponed, “Were due to staff comments and trying to work through some of those issues that we identified on the initial reviews, so they’ll have better information.”

He says there are still some details to discuss, “Access is going to be a concern and something they need to nail down before moving it forward to planning commission recommendation and ultimately the board of commissioners taking action.”

Sterling says there are many steps the applicant goes through before they approve re-zoning.

“Then we’ll compile that list and then usually give it back to the applicant and say, okay there’s a minor thing here that can be handled through the process or there’s some big, ticketed issues that you need to really focus on and figure out before we can move this thing forward.” he says.

There were no representatives in attendance to speak in favor of or against the postponement.
