WINSTON SALEM, N.C. (WKBN) – Two varieties of Texas Pete hot sauces have been recalled in 10 states, including Illinois, over issues with bottling and labeling, the T.W. Garner Food Company announced.

The company issued a recall for certain bottles of its Texas Pete Habanero Buffalo Sauce and Texas Pete Sweet CHAbanero Sauce on Thursday. The North Carolina-based company said inspectors had discovered that some bottles of the Habanero Buffalo may instead contain a sriracha pepper sauce, which contains sulfites not disclosed on the Habanero Buffalo label.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the T.W. Garner Foods Company writes.

The Sweet CHAbanero sauce, meanwhile, was recalled because one of its ingredients — specifically, “aged peppers (red habanero peppers, salt, vinegar)” — was somehow left off the label.

  • Recall: Texas Pete Half Gallon Sweet Sriracha Habanero Sauce
  • Recall: Texas Pete 20 oz Sweet Sriracha Habanero Sauce
  • Recall: Texas Pete 12 oz Habanero Buffalo Sauce
  • Recall: Texas Pete 2 oz Sweet Sriracha Habanero Sauce
  • Recall: Texas Pete 2 oz Habanero Buffalo Sauce

The bottles were shipped between February and March to distribution centers and shopping outlets in 10 states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia and Vermont.
