BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Widespread, historic flooding is prompting Brevard County officials to relocate several Election Day polling sites before Tuesday’s General Election. Some parts of Central Florida recorded nearly 2 feet of rain within 24 hours, creating what News 6 meteorologist Jordan Patrick described as a 1-in-1,000-year flood event.
“An upper level low mixed with deep tropical moisture was the perfect recipe to conjure up a 1-in-1,000-year flood event for Central Florida,” Patrick said.
The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office said Monday that several precinct polling locations would be moved temporarily because of the dangerous conditions, with the changes intended to safeguard voters and election workers.
“For the safety and security of our election workers and the voters of Brevard, it is necessary to relocate a couple of precinct polling locations due to these unprecedented circumstances,” Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic said.
