AUGUSTA, Ga () – Labor Day is the weekend many people take their last summer vacations.
With hundreds on the roads, officials want to make sure you are staying safe whether you are having a stay-cation or a roadtrip.
AAA states that hotel rates are 11% lower and car rental costs are 3% cheaper compared to last year.
Gas prices are also lower getting more people to travel this holiday weekend.
“We normally don’t travel on holidays because we don’t like to deal with a lot of people. We haven’t seen any speeding or anything,” said traveler Silvia from North Carolina.
Other travelers we spoke with say they weren’t surprised with how many people are already on the roads.
“I traveled last year, I was just going to the beach and it took twice the amount of time to get there so I wasn’t surprised,” said Sofia Skidmore, North Carolina Resident.
Officials say to drive the speed limit, wear your seatbelts and to not drive under the influence.
“I don’t think there’s been much traffic but there’s been a lot of people on the road this weekend for sure,” said Cris Salgato, North Carolina resident.
Skidmore added, “At Bucee’s it was so busy we went in and we left.”
According to AAA the best time to travel on Saturday is between 6-10am and the worst time to travel on Monday is between 1-4pm.
