Basketball championships set for Region 3-A D1

VIDALIA, Ga. () — Both the boys and the girls Region 3-A D1 championships are set after four semifinal games went down to the wire on Thursday, Feb 13.

On the boys’ side, Woodville-Tompkins advanced to the championship after a dramatic 50-51 win against Savannah Christian. The Wolverines trailed 18-7 after the first quarter, but came all the way back and won on a pair of free throws from Jonathon Pickering with 3.5 seconds left.

Woodville-Tompkins will match up with Toombs County in the championship, after the Bulldogs upset Vidalia in another thriller, 38-36.

On the girls’ side, Vidalia advanced to the championship with a 60-47 victory over Swainsboro. Vidalia opened the game on a 15-0 run, and coasted on its way to a 13-point victory.

Vidalia will play Savannah Country Day in the championship after the Hornets defeated St. Vincent’s 53-44.
