LUDOWICI, Ga. — The stage is set for the Region 3-AAA high school basketball championships following the conclusion of the semifinals on Friday at Long County High School. This venue is playing host this year as part of a tradition where the host alternates between the regular season leaders in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
In the boys’ semifinal matchups, Calvary Day emerged victorious over Liberty County with a 45-38 triumph, securing their spot in the championship. This win boosts the Cavaliers’ overall season record to 20 wins and 7 losses.
Meanwhile, Long County clinched their place in the final by overcoming Beach with a 58-45 win. The Blue Tide established a commanding 14-point lead by halftime, which they effectively maintained throughout the second half.
The region title showdown is scheduled for tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., where Calvary Day will challenge Long County at the Long County High School gymnasium.
Earlier in the day, Liberty County and Beach will compete for third place, with their game scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the same location.
On the girls’ side, Jenkins defeated Groves, 64-58, to advance to the championship. The Warriors overcame a deficit late in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime, and won in the extra period.
In the other semifinal, Liberty County defeated Long County, 48-44, to advance to the title game.
The Panthers will meet up with Jenkins for the championship at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow at Long County High School.
The third-place game on the girls side will feature Long County and Groves at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Long County High School.
