AIKEN, S.C. () – An Aiken man is behind bars following a domestic dispute.

When police and EMS responded to a home on Sumter Street Wednesday, February 24th, they were met by a woman who was bleeding profusely from a deep cut on her hand, reports say. The woman told them that her son was inside, also injured.

They went inside and found the son with a long, deep gash on his arm; also bleeding uncontrollably. While EMS got the son’s bleeding under control he was questioned by police.

The son reportedly told officers that the suspect, William James, began yelling at his mother and punching her in the head. As the son approached James to stop the alleged abuse, James pulled out a box cutter and cut the woman on the hand then lunged at the son and sliced his arm.

The reports go on to say that when James spoke with police he told them that he DID cut the son, but that was in self-defense from the son hitting him in the mouth.

The mom was treated at the scene, the son was taken to the hospital for treatment.

James was arrested and charged with High and Aggravated Assault and Battery, and Domestic Violence.
