In Statesboro, Georgia, the cherished Christmas festivities eventually found their way to the town’s heart, despite being postponed due to rain. The much-anticipated event, Christmas in the Boro, which was initially set for December 5th, finally came to life on a vibrant Friday evening, transforming the downtown streets into a festive wonderland.

This year’s celebration embraced a global flair with the theme “Christmas Around the World.” Attendees were treated to a culinary journey as an international food court was set up across from Statesboro City Hall, offering a variety of tastes from different cultures and countries.

The evening kicked off with a spirited parade that made its way down Main Street, setting the stage for a night filled with entertainment and community camaraderie. Visitors enjoyed live music and dance performances, shopped from local vendors, and experienced the delight of a hayride. Of course, no Christmas event would be complete without a chance for children to meet Santa Claus himself.

As is tradition in Statesboro, the community event also included the distribution of free chili dogs, ensuring that everyone could enjoy a warm, hearty bite while soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Per tradition, free chili dogs were handed out to all who wanted.

got a chance to speak with multiple people who spent their evening enjoying the holiday happiness about why they came out.

“[I came] out just to see everybody,” Naya Girand said. “Enjoy the holiday spirit and have fun with my sisters before we all leave for break.”

Cadence Jackson said she came out to “just have a fun time and see the families all happy and jolly. That’s what I love about the Christmas holidays.”

Abriel Delphine said her and her sisters came to the parade to just “support and to come volunteer.”

even got a chance to speak with Kris Kringle himself about why he made the journey south to Statesboro from the North Pole.

“I believe it has such a hometown feel,” Mr. Claus said. “Everybody comes together. It’s everybody helping everybody here and I just love being a part of it.  I love that the Downtown Statesboro {Development Authority} asks me to come do this every year. They call me each year, so I love it. I believe in the community and all the togetherness.”
