SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah State women’s basketball team has hit a challenging patch in an otherwise promising season, as injuries have impacted their performance. Despite the setbacks, the team remains determined to end the regular season on a strong note and gear up for the SIAC tournament.
Over the past six weeks, the Lady Tigers have faced significant hurdles, managing only one victory in their last ten matchups. This recent slump is particularly frustrating given their impressive start to conference play, where they secured a 5-2 record.
The impact of injuries has been increasingly evident. While ten players participated in the conference opener, the team’s roster has dwindled to just seven players in the last three games.
“It’s been a tough road with injuries,” remarked head coach Phillip Wallace, Jr. “We went to face Kentucky State and Central State with seven players, and now we’re down to six. We’re hopeful to have one player returning this week.”
“We are losing someone every week,” head coach Phillip Wallace, Jr. said. “We just left off to Kentucky State and Central State with seven, now I’m down to six. Hopefully, we will get one back this week.”
Savannah State is currently in sixth place in the SIAC East at 6-11. They are 7-11 overall.
The next time the Tigers hit the floor is Feb. 5 at Tiger Arena at 5:30 p.m.
