In a tragic start to the New Year, a retired police officer from Orlando lost his life to gun violence, as confirmed by local authorities.
Dennis Turner, aged 64, was discovered with a gunshot wound at a residence on Kozart Street. Despite being swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, Turner was ultimately pronounced dead.
Initial investigations by the Orlando Police Department suggest that the shooting stemmed from a family altercation. The incident has indeed cast a shadow over what should have been a time of celebration and new beginnings.
Following the shooting, 58-year-old Jeffery London was apprehended. Authorities reported that London attempted to evade capture, but was eventually located with the assistance of officers from Polk and Highlands counties.
Currently, London faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case continues to unfold as the community grapples with this sudden and violent loss.
Orlando police said Dennis Turner was a 23-year veteran of the agency and retired in 2018.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
