AUGUSTA, Ga. () – A Richmond County man is behind bars after what Richmond County investigators are calling the largest methamphetamine bust in Augusta history.
Jaquez Sturgis is charged with meth and fentanyl trafficking. Investigators say they executed 3 search warrants on properties on the 200 block of East Hale Street, the 100 block of Tybee Court, and an apartment complex on the 1300 block of Marks Church Road.
During those searches, more than 2,300 grams of fentanyl and 20 kilos of meth were recovered along with a vehicle, 2 guns and $18,346 in cash.
Investigators say more arrests could be coming as a result of the investigation.
In the release, Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley stated, “I want to personally thank and commend the outstanding work of our Narcotics Division and Crime Suppression Division. This seizure is not only historic in scope—it represents lives potentially saved from fatal overdoses and communities protected from the violence that often accompanies the drug trade. Our goal is to relentlessly pursue those who poison our neighborhoods with these deadly substances. I could not be prouder of the tireless efforts of our investigators and every deputy involved in this operation.”
