RICHMOND HILL, Ga. () — Neighborhoods throughout the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry are aglow with festive decorations, yet one particular family has a heartwarming mission behind their dazzling display.

For three decades, Melissa Johnson has transformed her Richmond Hill residence into a beacon of holiday spirit, aiming to support the local food pantry. This year, the walk-through light exhibit embraces the theme “Going Griswold.”

Guests are invited to marvel at the spectacle, with a gentle request from Johnson to contribute non-perishable goods for the Way Station Food Pantry.

The house is adorned with twinkling lights and even features snow scented like sugar cookies, creating an enchanting winter wonderland.

“Watching the little ones and their expressions of awe is truly delightful,” said Johnson. “Even the adults seem transported back to their childhoods. We are incredibly fortunate to share this experience with our community. Our lights bring a bit of extra sparkle to the Way Station Food Pantry, helping families in need.”

This year, they have collected over 1,500 pounds of food items, surpassing last year’s total. Julie Peterson, director of Way Station, told the story of their partnership.

“When [Johnson] moved here, she reached out to us and said that she always has this holiday light show and wanted to partner with us,” Peterson said. “That was a couple of years ago, and since then it’s grown. Their light show has grown, and the need is actually what’s grown.”

The light show is open Sunday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. until Jan. 1. The home is located at 63 Sweet Water Ct. in Richmond Hill.
