Rising Egg Costs Affecting Businesses in Central Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Some Central Illinois businesses are seeing a financial impact when it comes to supplying eggs.

The owner of Sam’s Cafe in Champaign said for them, they haven’t noticed any egg shortages, but one thing they’ve been dealing with for the past five months is the price of them quadrupling.

Sam Issa said they would normally pay around $22 dollars for a case of 15 dozen eggs. Now, they’re paying four times more for the same amount.

“90 some percent, our every order we sell here has eggs in it or egg related. Even French toast has eggs,” Issa said. “In all, our breakfast was our number one sale. [The] number one thing we sell is eggs. So, we take a big effect on it.”

He said it’s caused him to raise some of his breakfast specials from $8 to nearly $10 and it could go up higher from there.
