SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Sweet news for your Tuesday! Today is National Pralines Day and one local candy shop is celebrating in a way that gives back. When you treat yourself to a praline at River Street Sweets, our purchase will help feed children in need.

This fundraiser doesn’t just last one day. From June 24th through the 28th, praline lovers can enjoy their favorite treat while helping feed children in need. The shop is donating 10% of all praline sales to the Feeding America’s Kids’ Cafe Program.

Kids Cafe, which started in Savannah in 1989, offers evening meals, homework help and safe spaces for children facing food insecurity. The donations from praline sales will benefit the local Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia chapter and help support over a dozen sites serving area kids.

River Street Sweets, founded in 1973, has turned its “world famous” pralines into more than just a dessert. The day of celebration helps their pralines be a vehicle for positive change.

“This is our ninth year of celebrating National Pralines Day and partnering with Kids Cafe through Second harvest of Coastal Georgia. Every person that walks in the door — and this has been this way for over 50 years here at River Street Sweets — they get a hot, fresh praline sample and when you have that, you’re going straight to the counter to buy some because they’re the best in the world,” said Kelley Cale, the Vice President of Marketing for River Street Sweets.

In 2024, River Street Sweets aimed to raise $20,000. This year their goal is $22,000. All River Street Sweet’s locations are participating in the promotion.

Last year’s goal was to fund 100,000 meals, and this year’s goal is even bigger. So, whether you say “pray-leen” or “prah-leen,” your purchase will help feed a child, one bite at a time.

To help celebrate National Pralines Day, ‘s Tina Tyus Shaw will be out at River Street Sweets scooping pralines later today.
