SAVANNAH, Ga. () – The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is confirming that the lane closures Friday morning on Interstate 95 Northbound near the Interstate 16 onramp was due to a roadworker being struck by a passing vehicle
According to GSP, at approximately 4:38 a.m., a roadway maintenance crew was cleaning up traffic barrels when a Nissan Altima traveled off the roadway onto the center median and struck one of the work crew members, pinning him between the car and a maintenance vehicle.
The crew member sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment.
A GSP patrol vehicle, with its emergency lights activated, was parked behind the crew working in the left lane closest to the center median. The patrol car’s dash camera system was able to record the crash.
The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) was notified and responded to the scene to assist in a limited capacity.
No impairment is suspected in this case. Two lanes of Interstate 95 North were closed during the investigation.
