ROCHESTER, Ill. (WCIA) — The Rochester Police Department is investigating after an armed robbery happened to a driver in their village over the weekend.
The robbery happened in the area of Main and Walnut Streets at 3:17 p.m. on Sunday. In a post on Facebook, Rochester Police officials wrote that their officers and deputies from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office responded.
“Responding law enforcement ensured the victim was okay. The suspects returned to Springfield,” officials said. “We wanted the community to know that this was an isolated incident and is currently under investigation.”
Officials with the Rochester Police Department said they would release further information when they could.
WCIA reached out to both the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office for more information. Springfield Police told us that Rochester was the primary investigative agency and could not comment, while the Sheriff’s Office has not yet responded.
