KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Tuesday, students at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School were thrilled to receive tablets, a generous donation made possible by the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and its supporters.

This gesture is part of the Chamber’s annual Project Hope initiative, which aims to surprise students with gifts before they head off for winter break.

Over the years, the Chamber has delighted students with a variety of presents, including Nike shoes, scooters, and movie theater tickets.

Vanessa Bennett, the Chamber’s chief operations officer, expressed her gratitude towards the community donors who help bring these surprises to life.

“It’s truly special. For some students, this might be the biggest gift they receive all year,” Bennett remarked. “The sheer number of people who contribute to making this happen is incredible. It captures the true spirit of Christmas. If you don’t feel emotional on nights like this, something’s missing. It’s undoubtedly one of my favorite events of the year.”

Students also received meals that their families can cook.
