Russian Drone and Missile Strikes Kill 2 in Kyiv After Pause

KYIV – Russia launched an overnight barrage of drones and missiles at Kyiv on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring at least 10 others, local officials in the Ukrainian capital said.

The strikes followed a brief lull over the weekend and came as U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Kyiv for their first official visit, part of a renewed diplomatic effort to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported fires and damage across at least five districts of Kyiv. In a Telegram statement, the Kyiv City Military Administration said civilian infrastructure had been damaged at no fewer than 16 sites.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a 26-story non-residential building was struck. Elsewhere in the same district, a fire erupted and spread to a nearby non-residential structure. Emergency crews rescued one person during search operations, while two others were evacuated from an apartment inside a 16-story residential building.

In the Solomianskyi district, people were trapped inside a five-story residential building. At least 10 people were pulled to safety, the emergency service said, adding that fires were also reported in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts.
