CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — A standout talent from Glenwood, Ryleigh Kiel, is set to trade her Illinois roots for a future in Big Ten softball, though she remains within the conference’s boundaries. This promising athlete is heading to Happy Valley, where she will join Penn State’s softball team.
Penn State, which ended their season with an 11-13 record in conference play, impressed with an early upset against Northwestern during the conference tournament. Now, they are ready to welcome Kiel into their roster as they aim to build on this momentum.
The recruitment journey began on the very first day of the recruiting period when the Penn State coaches reached out to Kiel, consistently providing support and encouragement throughout the process.
“The coaching staff at Penn State really impressed me with their expertise and their unwavering faith in my potential,” Kiel reflected. “They uplifted my confidence, and knowing they are ambitious about future prospects only adds to my enthusiasm. They believe in my abilities, and I’m thrilled to be part of their journey up the ranks.”
Kiel’s high school career is marked by remarkable achievements, having played a pivotal role in leading Glenwood to a state championship title in 2025, and guiding the Titans to a commendable runner-up finish the following year in 2026.
