SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) – Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin baseball is heading to the 2A state semifinals despite feeling it hasn’t played perfect baseball yet.
The Cyclones beat Monticello 4-3 in the Super-Sectional round. The win came despite five errors made against the Sages.
“Just staying confident through the game. Errors are going to happen, ” junior Carson Butler said. “I know that, I play shortstop, a lot of opportunities, [for errors.]” You know, it’s part of the game.”
“Coaches, they never had any doubt in us that we would overcome those five errors,” junior Drew Ward said. “That’s obviously this underclassmen group stepping up, being leaders and that helps the team move past them.”
SHG enters the final weekend of the season at 24-8-1.
“We’ve had some good wins early in the season,” junior Ty Springer said. “Some rocky roads in between there, but I thought we could get this win.” “It’s nice to finally get here.”
SHG plays Eureka on Friday at 4 p.m. in Champaign.
