SALUDA, S.C. () – A Saluda High School teacher was arrested after allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student, the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
In a statement posted to Facebook on Aug. 7, the sheriff’s office said Melissa Groleau was taken into custody by deputies at the the High School Complex and transported to the Saluda County Detention Center. She faces multiple charges, including two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor 2nd degree, Assault and Battery 2nd degree, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
According to police, the investigation began on Aug. 7 after “serious allegations” were brought to the attention of school resource officers. The matter was referred to the sheriff’s office, and evidence was obtained, leading to Groleau’s arrest.
Saluda County Schools Superintendent Harvey Livingston said Groleau is being placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
“The Saluda School District has been in full cooperation with the Sheriff’s Office to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation is completed,” the statement reads in part.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details have been released.
