Salvation Army welcoming people in for warmth

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Salvation Army is inviting the community inside as temperatures drop.

The Salvation Army’s shelters are for anybody who needs a warm place to go during the winter storm.

The organization implemented its White Flag conditions, which means its Ashe Street shelter can accommodate 25 guests, and the Salvation Army has additional resources if it becomes full.

“As soon as they come in, check-in; they go straight inside, get warmed up, and spend the night,” Major Maureen Diffley said. “We also have connections with neighborhood partners for additional overflow space and transportation through a community partner. So if we ever hit 25, then we’re able to get people to another location so they can stay warm through the night.”

The Ashe Street shelter hosts check-in nightly from 6-8 p.m.
