TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. (WFLA) – The much-anticipated Sanding Ovations event is making its grand return, promising a show like no other on the sandy shores.

This year’s event boasts an impressive lineup, featuring some of the world’s most talented sand sculptors. “We have gathered top-tier sand artists from around the globe,” said Brian Lowack, president and CEO of Visit St. Pete-Clearwater. “In addition to breathtaking sculptures, visitors can enjoy live music, delicious food, and a variety of local vendors. It’s an exclusive experience unique to Treasure Island.”

Among the artists is Dan Doubleday, a world-renowned sand sculptor with a career spanning back to 1996. Alongside his wife, Doubleday co-owns Sanding Ovations, drawing creative inspiration from the world around him.

Dan Doubleday is a world champion in sand sculpting. He started putting his hands to the sand, back in 1996.

Doubleday and his wife are the owners of Sanding Ovations. He said life is his inspiration for his art.

“It is very similar to writing a song,” Doubleday said. “For me, it’s a therapy session. You are able to put yourself out there. Even if only one person relates, you’re successful.”

When you walk through the sculptures, you cannot miss the towering dali-inspired sundial, right in the middle.

“In the centerpiece, there’s a pyramid on top of the elephant up here,” Doubleday said.

“We can see the shadow coming by, showing how the earth is turning,”

With any piece of art, it’s bound to generate a reaction and conversations from those passing by.

Two brothers we spoke to had different opinions.

The festival is free to the public. It will run through this weekend, as well as next.
