SAVANNAH, Ga. – As we approach the first weekend of the new year, weather forecasts indicate rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to rise to the upper 60s and possibly reach 70°, providing the conditions necessary for storms to form. However, extensive cloud cover is anticipated to prevent most storms from gaining significant strength.
The day will begin with scattered showers, followed by a line of showers and storms in the afternoon and evening as a cold front passes through the region. The main concerns will be strong winds and heavy rainfall. Although flooding is unlikely due to below-average rainfall levels, there is a minimal risk of severe weather, including a slight chance of tornadoes and hail.
TIMEFRAME: Anticipate scattered showers in the morning, with the primary storm line moving in between 2-9 pm.
THREATS: Expect gusty winds, heavy downpours, and a low probability of tornadoes and hail.
Some showers might persist into the night, but conditions are expected to dry out as clouds begin to clear by Sunday afternoon. Sunday will bring cooler and breezier weather, with temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to the lower 60s.
Looking ahead, a warming trend returns for the upcoming week. We’re tracking quiet weather with highs in the mid to upper 60s on Monday, then temperatures climbing back into the low 70s for the rest of the week with continued dry conditions.
