Savannah Guthrie Pleads for Justice as Search for Kidnapper of Her Mom Enters Third Week

(NEXSTAR) – Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram Sunday night with an emotional plea for the safe return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was abducted. In the heartfelt video, she implored the kidnapper to reunite the 84-year-old with her family.

“It has been two weeks since our mom disappeared, and I wanted to express that we hold onto hope and belief,” Guthrie shared in the video. “To whoever has her or knows her whereabouts, it’s never too late to make things right. You’re not alone, and we are here for you.”

The search for Nancy Guthrie began on February 1, the day she was reported missing. Despite efforts by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, no suspects or persons of interest have been apprehended, and official updates have been sporadic.

Investigations revealed that blood found on Nancy Guthrie’s porch matched her DNA. Footage from her doorbell camera captured a masked individual, armed and approaching her home, whom the FBI later identified as a suspect. Described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, he was seen carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.

In a recent update, the FBI announced that a glove discovered a few miles from Guthrie’s residence resembles those seen in the surveillance video. The glove is currently undergoing DNA analysis, authorities confirmed.

But frustrations have been growing with officials over their handling of the Guthrie investigation, first after authorities processed her home and prematurely turned it back over to family. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later admitted that may have been a mistake.

A pizza delivery man was also able to walk across Guthrie’s property amid an active investigation, and before deputies noticed.

“We can’t believe we have to say this, but media on scene: please do not order food delivery to a crime scene address. This interferes with an active investigation. Please also respect private property laws,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said of the incident.

The Pima County Sheriff and the FBI had earlier announced phone numbers and a website to offer tips. The FBI confirmed that 13,000 tips had been submitted since Feb. 1, while the sheriff’s department said it has taken at least 18,000 calls.

The sheriff’s department has not said whether any tips have advanced the investigation.

Meanwhile, Guthrie’s family has appeared in Instagram videos appealing directly to the abductor, saying they had wanted to talk and even revealing that they were willing to pay a ransom. A video shared Thursday on Savannah Guthrie’s Instagram page was simply a home video from her younger years, and a promise to “never give up on her.”

The family’s Instagram videos have shifted in tone from impassioned pleas to whoever may have their mom, saying they want to talk and are even willing to pay a ransom, to bleaker and more desperate requests for the public’s help. A video on Thursday was simply a home video of their mother and a promise to “never give up on her.”

“Bring her home,” Guthrie wrote along her latest video, shared Sunday night. “It’s never too late to do the next right thing.”
