SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah State softball team enters its third year under head coach Amber Hallman, as they look to qualify for the SIAC tournament for the second consecutive season.

Last season, the Lady Tigers finished 14-29 and 9-15 in the conference. The 14 wins were the most for the program since 2018.

They also made the SIAC tournament for the first time since 2022.

Coach Hallman said she did lose a lot from last year’s team, but the expectation is still to improve upon last year’s fourth-place finish in the East Division. Early in the season, they look to rely on pitching.

“We do have a small roster,” Hallman said, “but we have some workhorses. One of my senior pitchers, Zarria Smith, she’s a baller and then I have a freshman that came in, she’s a baller as well. And then I have a couple of young ladies that pitch and play other positions so we can get a little rotation in our pitching staff.”

Savannah State opens the season on Jan. 31 with a doubleheader in Jacksonville. They take on Trinity Baptist at 1 p.m. and then the University of Fort Lauderdale at 3:30 p.m.
