Savannah State University Recognizes Trio of Staff Members with Prestigious Fall 2025 Service Awards

SAVANNAH, Ga. () – The fall 2025 semester at Savannah State University (SSU) marked a special occasion as the institution paid tribute to three exceptional staff members for their outstanding contributions.

McCall Roriex, left, Michael Sharpe, and Desmond Stowe received honors for outstanding service to the university.

Mrs. McCall Roriex, who serves as the assistant comptroller within the Office of Business and Finance, received the prestigious Innovation Award. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals who propose groundbreaking ideas or suggestions that enhance the university’s operations, policies, and procedures.

The Unsung Hero Award was conferred upon Mr. Michael Sharpe, the director of Housing and Residence Life. This award acknowledges those who work diligently behind the scenes, consistently going beyond their duties to bring about improvements within the SSU community.

Mr. Desmond Stowe, the assistant dean of students, was honored with the Service Excellence Award. This recognition is reserved for staff members who deliver remarkable contributions that surpass typical expectations, offering outstanding service to both the campus and the wider community.

The recipients of these awards were selected through a peer-nomination voting process, highlighting the respect and admiration they have earned from their colleagues.
