SAVANNAH, Ga. — Not even a downpour could dampen the spirits of participants at Savannah’s cherished event, the 48th Annual Scottish Games, which took place on Saturday.

The celebration, hosted on the scenic grounds of Bethesda Academy, is a vibrant tribute to Celtic heritage. Attendees were treated to a day filled with live music, athletic competitions, traditional dancing, historical reenactments, authentic cuisine, and whisky tastings. According to the event’s president, the rain only added to the day’s authenticity.

“It feels like we’ve brought a piece of Scotland to Savannah,” remarked Murray Mashall. “These drizzly conditions are quite typical of Scottish weather. It’s unusual to experience this kind of cool, moist climate in Savannah, Georgia, especially in May. Our games always take place on the first Saturday of May, and usually, we face scorching 95-degree heat with no breeze. Honestly, I find this refreshing rain to be a blessing compared to the stifling heat.”
