(WSPA) – The head of South Carolina public’s broadcasting operations said on Monday efforts to defund public broadcasting won’t stop efforts to provide educational resources or to tell meaningful stories of life in the Palmetto State.

Last week federal lawmakers voted to cut $9 billion in federal funding for aid programs and for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The cuts are expected to heavily impact public television and radio stations in rural areas.

Adrienne Fairwell, president and CEO of SCETV, issued the following statement on the cuts.

“At South Carolina ETV and Public Radio, our mission is rooted in service— providing trusted content, educational resources and meaningful storytelling that amplifies the voices of our state. I am thankful for the continued support SCETV receives from the Governor’s Office, the South Carolina General Assembly and members of the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.

We remain steadfast in our mission, continuing to deliver local content created by South Carolinians for South Carolinians, supporting educational programming and classroom resources, and providing essential emergency communications and government transparency services to our state.

Together, we are creating a stronger, more informed and connected South Carolina.”
