MERIDIAN, Ill. (WCIA) — Ashley Schelling stepped up to the plate with precision and poise in Meridian’s sectional semifinal clash against Heyworth.
In a dramatic twist, with the Hawks trailing by one run in the final inning, Schelling’s timely 2-RBI hit clinched the game, propelling her team to the sectional championship showdown with Leroy.
Although she had surrendered the lead earlier in the inning, Schelling and her teammates remained calm and determined as they prepared for their batting opportunity.
“After that three-run homer, I stayed positive,” Schelling remarked. “With our ninth batter and then the top of the lineup set to hit, I had no doubt we’d rally. Our commitment to winning and advancing was unwavering; we were ready to seize the moment right there.”
Schelling has been a pivotal force for the Hawks all season, amassing 22 victories as a pitcher and leading the team in RBIs at the plate.
Schelling is now eligible for a $1,500 cash prize we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
