HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Two men were spotted openly carrying firearms, acting as Second Amendment auditors, in Holmes County on Tuesday, according to law enforcement.
Deputies with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office were called to monitor the duo after they were spotted in the area of Thomas Drive near the prison.

According to the sheriff’s office, the men were acting as Second Amendment auditors and appeared to be recording law enforcement in order to provoke a response.
In September, a state appeals court overturned Florida’s 2023 open carry ban, calling it unconstitutional.
In an update posted to social media, the sheriff’s office said that the two “gunslingers” did not get the reaction they intended and later called to complain that a deputy was following and harassing them.
“Let’s make something clear — if you’re walking around in body armor and carrying an AR-15, our deputies are going to do what they have to do to keep our citizens safe,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement posted to Facebook.
“Public safety comes first. Always.”
