Sangamon, Menard Co. Crime Stoppers looking for tips on thefts, criminal damage

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties are looking for the public’s help in identifying suspects in multiple theft and criminal damage incidents.

Over the last couple of weeks, at three separate businesses in Springfield, an unknown person or person(s) have been breaking into propane cages and stealing propane tanks. During one of the incidents, surveillance video captured a person on a red dirt bike with the number “5” or “6” rider sign on the handlebars.

They broke the lock to a propane cage and then shortly after, a black SUV pulled up and picked up the tanks that were hidden on the property. The total dollar amount in these thefts is in the thousands. Pictures of this person and the dirt bike can be found at cashfortips.us.

Anyone who has information regarding this incident or that can identify this individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427, submit a tip at cashfortips.us or on the P3 app. Any tip resulting in an arrest could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500.
