HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The father of the late Tejano music icon Selena, Abraham Quintanilla, passed away on Saturday, as confirmed by his son and reported by TMZ.

AB Quintanilla shared the heartbreaking news on social media early Saturday, writing, “It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my dad passed away today.”

Abraham was 86 years old at the time of his passing.

The Quintanilla family hails from Corpus Christi, Texas.

His passing follows the recent release of the Netflix documentary “Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy,” which premiered on November 17.

Abraham was the original singer of Los Dinos and ultimately taught his children, Suzette, AB, and Selena to sing and play in the band. The band, comprising the South Texas family, Selena y Los Dinos, gained global recognition as Selena once she gained notoriety in the Tejano music scene.

In 1998, Abraham Quintanilla opened the Selena Museum, located at Q Productions, Selena’s former recording studio, at 5410 Leopard Street in Corpus Christi, as a tribute to the late singer. The museum showcased her awards and famous costumes she wore on stage, including the purple jumpsuit she wore at the 1995 Rodeo Houston Performance.

Not only did the museum highlight her most memorable career moments, but it also displayed childhood possessions, her fan art and a recreation of her recording studio.
