WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — Democrats held the Senate floor overnight in protest of Russell Vought’s nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget.

“Project 2025 is dangerous. Mr. Vought is dangerous,” Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said.

In a rare overnight session in the Senate, Democrats objected to this selection, calling Vought the “most dangerous nominee.”

“We want to sound the alarm, sound the alarm on the reckless and lawless things that Russell Vought will do to American families,” Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.

Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer says Vought authored Project 2025 and would use his position to cut programs like Social Security, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act.

“We are warning the American people how bad this is. We will see the consequences in the weeks and months ahead,” Schumer said.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.)  warn of what else Vought would do for President Trump if he controls the Office of Management and Budget.

“He’s got radical ideas, and he actually has the means to implement them very quickly,” Murphy said.

“Public service is about serving the people, while corruption we see is about serving themselves,” Kim said.

Despite the opposition, Vought is expected to be confirmed this week as Republicans have lined up in support of his nomination.
