ATLANTA (WJBF) – Georgia Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff said they are outlining priorities in Congress for Georgians.
Senator Ossoff said he wants to get relief for farmers impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Warnock and Ossoff passed a bipartisan disaster relief package that include $21 billion dollars to help Georgia farmers and other farmers around the country impacted by natural disasters.
“Family farms are barely hanging on and that’s why it’s imperative that the administration moves swiftly,” he said. “We have passed this disaster within 90 days. I remind you again after Michael it took Congress 8 months. We moved quickly and I am urging the administration to deliver these resources to Georgia farmers so that those family farms don’t go under.”
Both are now pushing the new U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to quickly distribute the federal disaster funds to help Georgia’s agriculture industry.
The Georgia Pecan Growers Association said 48,000 acres of pecan orchards were damaged with a loss of nearly 400,000 trees. The Georgia Poultry Federation reported that nearly 500 poultry houses were impacted and nearly 300 were lost due to the hurricane.
