SAVANNAH, Ga. – On Friday, Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) took his campaign trail to Savannah, focusing on the pressing issue of rising health care costs and shedding light on his achievements during his tenure in the U.S. Senate.

As he seeks re-election, Ossoff underscored his commitment to bridging divisions in the country, making national unity a central theme of his campaign address.

Key Legislative Achievements

Highlighting his legislative contributions, Ossoff credited the bipartisan infrastructure law as a significant milestone, one he believes would not have been realized without the collaborative efforts of himself and Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.).

“This law has facilitated the modernization of every seaport and airport across Georgia, enhanced our surface transportation systems, removed lead pipes from drinking water infrastructures, and initiated the expansion of broadband internet access,” Ossoff stated.

He also said he has strengthened veteran health care through The Pact Act.

It presumes that veterans who were deployed in a place with known exposure to chemicals and are diagnosed with certain diseases are connected, so they can receive benefits.

Health Care Concerns

“While fighting cancer, having to fight the VA to prove against a hostile government, the same government that sent them to fight, having to prove that that cancer was service-related,” said Ossoff.

He said Georgia has lost nine hospitals in 15 years due to officials refusing to expand health care.

He went on to say the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world and Georgia has the highest in the country.

“They just cut Medicaid to lower taxes for the wealthiest people in the country,” said Ossoff. “Couldn’t we unite the people across Georgia to make sure every single county has a health clinic, to make sure every county has an ObGyn, to stop women preventively dying in childbirth in the wealthiest country in the world?”

Local Funding in Savannah

Ossoff said after trips to Savannah, and understanding firsthand what needed to be changed, he ensured federal funding went to upgrades at the West Broad Street YMCA and Meals on Wheels had new kitchen equipment and vehicles.

Overall Campaign

He ended his speech questioning decisions made by the Trump Administration, such as ICE tactics, cutting healthcare and nutrition programs and what he calls an attack on voting rights.

“Trump’s political project was sold as being about working-class Americans,” said Ossoff.  “When you are slashing healthcare and nutrition programs to cut taxes for the richest people in the country, you don’t get to wear the mantle for being a champion for working-class Americans.”

Local Congressman Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who is challenging the incumbent Ossoff, responded to Ossoff’s campaign.

“From the launch of TrumpRx to signing into law the most sweeping PBM reforms in decades, President Trump is bringing costs down at the pharmacy counter for patients. Instead of throwing more money at a broken system created by the UnAffordable Care Act, which is what Jon Ossoff wants to do, we are empowering patients with more affordable options. Ossoff’s plan would enrich Big Insurance and impoverish Americans with skyrocketing premiums. Republicans are putting more money where it matters – your pockets – and promoting competition over government control,” said Carter.
