NEW ORLEANS – Multiple fatalities were reported early Wednesday after a car plowed through a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, according to CBS News.

Witnesses told a CBS News reporter that a truck sped and crashed into the crowd and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, according to CBS News. Police then returned fire.

A spokesperson for the police department told CBS News, “initial reports show a car may have plowed into a group of people. Injuries are unknown but there are reported fatalities.”

CBS affiliate WWL-TV in New Orleans reported at least 10 people are dead.

Information about the driver has not been released.
